March 27, 2020: The International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) has announced that the 2020 iF3 World Championships will be postponed until November. The event was originally scheduled for August 21-23rd in Abbottsford, Canada. The exact dates and venue are still being finalized, but the competition will stay in the same general area in British Columbia, Canada.

The iF3 Masters’ World Championships will remain as scheduled in October in Lisbon, Portugal, where they will be part of TAFISA’s World Sport For All Games.

iF3 President Gretchen Kittelberger commented on the iF3’s reasoning and process when deciding on the postponement, “The iF3 met with the planning team in Canada earlier this week to discuss our options regarding Worlds. Everyone’s biggest concerns with keeping the date of Worlds in August were that the athletes would not have enough time to train and prepare for the event properly given current lockdown measures and many closed gyms around the world and that our National Federations would not have adequate time to complete safe and fair qualifying procedures and National Championships for athletes prior to Worlds. Given these concerns, we felt it was in the best interest of the health and safety of the athletes, our National Federations, and everyone involved to postpone the event.”

After reaching the decision with the iF3 Board and the host country of Canada earlier this week, the iF3 then met with the National Federation Presidents on Thursday to relay the decision to all National Federations first before making a public announcement of the decision.

The iF3 will release exact competition dates and the precise venue as soon as the schedule has been finalized.
