Naples, Italy March 4th, 2020: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Associazione Functional Fitness Italia as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Italy.

Neil Andrew Macleod, President of the Italian Federation, announced, “After two years of hard work, finally we have reached the goal of being a member of the iF3. This is a huge step forward for our young federation and a great recognition as well as a big incentive for the work still to be done. This is an important teamwork result for our Federation. I must thank my board members for their vital contribution and IF3 for their constant support on our ambitious project. ”

He went on to explain that, “as a national governing body we will focus this year on increasing the numbers of affiliated clubs and on being recognized by the Italian National Olympic committee. At the same time we will set the basis for a sanctioned Italian event calendar in 2021”.

The Italian Federation will be aiming to make their first appearance at the iF3 World Championships in 2020. The 2020 World Championships will be held August 21-23 in Abbottsford, British Columbia, Canada. Macleod expressed his excitement about the future saying that “ this is a great opportunity for the functional fitness movement in Italy to be finally recognized as a competitive sport. We have a great sport base in Italy with a consistent number of clubs. Our aim is to become a constant reference and support for them”.

Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “The Italian Federation has been in the works for quite some time. We are very excited that the pieces have finally come together, and that they are able to start their work toward expanding, unifying, and growing the sport in Italy. We look forward to a bring future for functional fitness in Italy.”
