On August 6, 2024, the iF3 became aware that the International Masters Weightlifting Association (IMWLA) had imposed a period of ineligibility on Marcha Van Glaanen Weygel and disqualified all her competitive results for the period of October 18, 2021 to October 17, 2025 based on an Adverse Analytical Finding obtained during a doping control test at the 2021 European Masters Weightlifting Championship.
Van Glaanen Weygel competed in the 2021 iF3 Masters World Championships in Cairo, Egypt on December 10-11, 2021, where she placed 2nd in the Women’s 50-54 Division and was awarded the silver medal. At the time of this event, the Adverse Analytical Finding analysis on Van Glaanen Weygel’s sample had not yet been completed nor was it publicly available. However, the ban later imposed backdates to prior to the date of iF3 Masters Worlds.
In accordance with iF3 Anti-Doping rules, if a signatory to WADA’s World Anti-Doping Code imposes a ban or disqualification of results upon an athlete, that decision is also automatically binding on the iF3 and applies to iF3 events. At the time of the doping control test in question, the IMWLA’s doping control program was under the authority of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), who is a WADA signatory. Therefore, in accordance with iF3 anti-doping rules Van Glaanen Weygel’s results from 2021 iF3 Masters Worlds have been nullified.
She has been asked to return her silver medal, and the silver and bronze medals will be re-allocated. Finland’s Nina Fagerlund is the new silver medalist and Sweden’s Camilla Agren is in the new bronze medalist. The new medalists will be invited to attend a medal reallocation ceremony at iF3 Super Worlds in Budapest in December.
