  • on December 12, 2018

Melbourne, Australia December 12, 2018: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Australian Functional Fitness Federation as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Australia.

Mel Robinson, President of the Australian Federation, announced, “We are extremely excited to join the iF3 and be the governing body for our Australian athletes. We look forward to giving our Australian athletes the opportunity to be a part of the Federation and offering them the opportunity to compete against the best from all over the world.”

She went on to explain that, “2019, our inaugural year, is set to be huge. Australia will see three of our top men, three top women and one team of four go through to compete at the Worlds in Sweden.”

The Australian Federation has set their sights on attending their first iF3 World Championships in 2019. The 2019 World Championships will be held in Malmo, Sweden in early fall and will feature athletes from around the world. Robinson expressed her excitement about the future saying, “Collaborating with the iF3 is a huge step forward for functional fitness in Australia. We look forward to continually developing a governing structure which provides rules, safety standards, judge training and the opportunity for our athletes to compete at the Worlds in 2019 and beyond and well into the future and then ultimately be able to represent Australia in the Olympic Games. We feel truly honoured to be involved in building the pathway for Functional Fitness to be included in the Olympic Games.”

Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “The formation of the Australian Federation marks a huge step forward for the iF3. With Australia joining the iF3, we have truly become a worldwide organization and now have National Federations on six continents. Not only is the Australian Federation our first federation in the Oceania region, but the country is also home to some of the top functional fitness athletes in the world. There is a very strong group behind the development of the Australian Federation, and we look forward to watching the growth of the sport in Australia under their guidance.”
