Bridgetown, Barbados January 31 2019:  Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Barbados Functional Fitness Alliance as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Barbados.

Philip Gaskin, President of the Barbados Functional Fitness Alliance, announced, “This is the first step towards unifying and standardizing the functional fitness community in Barbados, and we are excited to be a member of the wider International functional fitness community-IF3.”

He went on to explain that, “Our plans for this year are to host at least 1 judges course and to select a team to attend the Functional Fitness World Championships in Sweden.”

Barbados has set their sights on attending their first iF3 World Championships in 2019. The 2019 World Championships will be held in Malmo, Sweden from August 30-September 1 and will feature athletes from around the world. Dr. Gaskin went on to say that Barbados is passionate about the sport of Functional Fitness and that he is pleased that small developing states can now have a representation both in the administration and as athletes.

Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “We are very excited for Barbados to join the iF3. Philip has been diligently attending iF3 meetings for the past year and was in London this past October representing Barbados at the iF3 Congress meeting as well as attending Worlds all weekend, so we are glad to finally be able to officially welcome him and his team and his country as members of the iF3. Barbados is our third national federation in the Caribbean, and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of the sport not only in Barbados, but in the region as a whole.”
