Helsinki, Finland June 14, 2020 –  Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of Finland Functional Fitness as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Finland.

Kim Nystrom, Head of the Finnish Federation, announced, “We are really excited about finally reaching this big marker, and are very happy about the support from the iF3 and the other member federations during the establishment of this sport in Finland.”

He went on to explain that, “We are hoping to see the membership grow fast and perhaps even be able to crown our first official Finnish Champions this year”

The Finnish Federation is now eligible to send athletes to the iF3 Continental Cup in December, which is a live online event for the top athletes. The Continental Cup is replacing this year’s World Championships, which were canceled due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. More information about the work of the Finnish Federation is available at https://fin2f.fi

Nystrom expressed his excitement about the future saying, “The future of this sport has now been guaranteed, and all the doors are open – even the Olympics!”

Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “With the addition of the Finnish Federation, we now have Federations throughout the Nordic region. This region in particular has a great understanding of sport development and a history of strong functional fitness athletes. We look forward to not only seeing the Finnish athletes compete, but seeing the Nordic region continue to grow its presence in the sport.”
