Ahmedabad, India December 31, 2018: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Fitness Sports Federation India as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in India.
Umang Dawn, President of the Indian Federation, announced, “India is an young nation and the youth of India are excited to represent their country on the international stage at the Functional Fitness World Championship. Fitness Sports Federation India aims to be the leader of Functional Fitness in the South Asian Region and is excited about starting the first Federation in South Asian Region and being a member of the iF3.”
He went on to explain that, “our plan for the New Year 2019 is to set-up State Committee or State Association in all States & Union Territories of India, and organize the first National Fitness Sports Championship to select the National Team of Fitness Sports India to attend the iF3 World Championship in 2019 ”
The Indian Federation will be looking to send a contingent of athletes to compete at the International Functional Fitness Federation World Championships in 2019. The World Championships will be held in later summer/early fall in Malmo, Sweden and features athletes from around the world. Dawn expressed his excitement about the future saying, “Fitness is not only art; it’s a sport.”
Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “India is a very large and populous nation but has not traditionally had a strong presence in functional fitness competition, so we are very excited to be welcoming the Indian Federation to the International Functional Fitness Federation and to work with them to grow their presence in the competitive functional fitness space. We look forward to seeing some great athletes develop and come out of India in the coming years.”
