Dublin, Ireland September 5th, 2017: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Functional Fitness Federation Ireland as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Ireland.

Andy Ewington, President of the Ireland Federation, announced, “It’s great to be part of a worldwide movement in developing the sport of Functional Fitness. To be bringing a group of people together with the goal of allowing athletes to pursue a dream of competing at the Olympics is something special, something we wanted to be a part of.”

“Ireland will be instituting an application process this season in order to select athletes to compete and represent Ireland at the International Functional Fitness Federation Championships in October.”

The International Functional Fitness Championships will be held October 21-22, 2017 in Concord, California. The competition will feature team and individual competition from athletes all over the world. More information about the work of the Ireland Federation is available at https://www.facebook.com/IrelandFF.

Ewington expressed his excitement about the announcement of the Federation and the future of the sport by saying “The growth of the sport has been significant and now is the right time to take that a step further by developing structure, guidelines, rulebooks and competitions that all serve the purpose of allowing coaches and athletes to participate in a sport that is fair and safe.”

Gretchen Kittelberger, Head of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “The Functional Fitness Federation Ireland is a great addition to our family of National Federations. We are excited to have Ireland on board to help grow and promote the sport both in their country and in Europe as a whole.”
