Factual Summary
On December 31, 2025, the iF3 received a complaint from Finnish Functional Fitness (Fin2f) alleging several violations of the iF3 Code of Ethics by a Swedish Junior National Team Coach during the After-Party of iF3 Worlds 2025. Taking the claim at face value, the iF3 determined there was enough information in the claim to support a finding of an ethical violation and as such proceeded to move forward with an investigation into the facts and circumstances surrounding the incidents alleged in the complaint.
As a first step, the Swedish Functional Fitness Federation (Swe3f) was notified of the complaint. The iF3 conducted a meeting with Swe3f to confirm the coach’s status as a National Team Coach and receive background information on his role and time at the organization. Around the same time, the ages and athlete status of the athletes mentioned in the complaint were also confirmed by Fin2f.
The iF3 conducted interviews with both the coach and several Finnish athletes to ascertain the facts of the situation. Based on the interviews conducted, all parties agree alcohol was obtained by and consumed by minor athletes from Finland and Sweden during the after party of the 2025 iF3 World Championships. The parties disagree on how the alcohol was purchased and obtained. However, it was alleged that the coach purchased alcohol for athletes. While the iF3 was unable to obtain the physical evidence needed to make a determination on who purchased the alcohol, the fact remains undisputed that the coach, as the adult present and overseeing the athletes during the evening, was aware that alcohol was obtained and being consumed by minor athletes. With this knowledge in hand, he failed to either prevent the athletes from continuing to have access to alcohol or remove the athletes from the situation.
The iF3 Code of Ethics (Code) Section F.3. makes it a violation of the Code for any person officially associated with an iF3 National Federation to condone the use of alcohol by minors. Based on the interviews with the relevant parties, the iF3 finds that the coach’s behavior during the after party amounted to condoning such behavior and is in violation of the Code.
Section F.3. also makes it a violation for minors participating in iF3 activities to consume alcohol. As such Junior Finnish and Swedish athletes, whose names will not be publicized or shared in any manner due to their legal status as minors, are in violation of Section F.3. of the Code.
The original complaint also alleged sexual misconduct in the form of sexual harassment by the coach based on an incident which occurred in a unisex bathroom during the after party. The behavior as described in the complaint would amount to a violation under Section H.3. of the iF3 Code of Ethics. After reviewing Section H of the iF3 Code, it also specifies that Section H applies to creating a safe environment for participants, coaches, volunteers, and staff involved in the iF3 events. However, at the time of this incident, the Complainant was not an athlete actively competing at iF3 Worlds nor was she a coach, volunteer, or staff. As such, the iF3 finds that it does not have jurisdiction over this portion of the Complaint. However, the iF3 has shared its opinion of the facts of the situation with both Swe3f and Fin2f to determine if they have any jurisdiction to review and adjudicate this situation further.
Sanction
For his violation of Section F.3. of the iF3 Code of Ethics, the Swedish Junior National Team Coach is suspended from participating in iF3 Events and any events sanctioned by National Federation members of the iF3 as an athlete, coach, staff, administrator, or volunteer for a period of 3 years beginning February 16, 2026 and ending February 16, 2029. If he completes the SafeSport training course prescribed by the iF3, which focuses on understanding and preventing sexual, emotional, and physical abuse and misconduct, this sanction will be reduced to 2 years.
For their violation of Section F.3 of the iF3 Code of Ethics, the minor athletes from Finland and Sweden are being issued a warning and will be required to undergo education on the effects of alcohol on athletic performance prior to their next iF3 or National Federation competition. The iF3 will work with Fin2f and Swe3f to ensure the recommended education is completed promptly.
After consultation with the relevant National Federations involved in the complaint, the iF3 has made the determination to limit disclosure of the identities of all parties involved in this incident. The identities of any athlete involved in any situation described in the initial complaint will not be publicized or shared by the iF3. The identity of the Swedish Junior National Team Coach will be shared with the National Federations of the iF3 to the extent necessary to uphold the sanction at a national level. The iF3 feels this decision strikes the best balance between ensuring our National Federation members receive the appropriate information and respecting the privacy of everyone involved.
