Baarn, The Netherlands June 3rd, 2018: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Krachtsport & Fitnessbond (KNKF) as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in the Netherlands.
KNKF is the governing body for all strength sports in the Netherlands and in addition to the recent addition of functional fitness also governs weightlifting, powerlifting, wrestling, Paralympic powerlifting, kettlebell sports, and calisthentics within the Netherlands.
Paul Lengkeek, President of the KNKF, announced, “Functional fitness is growing rapidly in the Netherlands. A lot of our athletes combine functional fitness with other strength sports like weightlifting and powerlifting. We are excited to join the International Functional Fitness Federation to support the growth and quality of functional fitness in the Netherlands.”
He went on to explain that, “the KNKF will setup a dedicated team to organize in 2018 a functional fitness competition for our athletes to prepare for the World Championship and work to improve the quality of trainers, coaches, judges, gyms, competitions, and athletes.”
The Netherlands Federation will be looking to send a contingent of Dutch athletes to compete at the International Functional Fitness Federation World Championships this fall. The World Championships will be held October 5-7th, 2018 in London, England and feature athletes from around the world.
KNKF is also currently looking for individuals who are knowledgeable and passionate about functional fitness to help them build and develop the sport in the Netherlands. More information about the work of the Netherlands Federation can be found at www.knkf.nl/. Individuals looking to get involved should reach out via the contact info on the KNKF website.
Lengkeek expressed his excitement about the future saying, “We are looking forward to working with the International Functional Fitness Federation and the other National Federations. We are confident that with their support we can grow the sport in the Netherlands. For us it is a great opportunity to use the knowledge and experience from other strength sports we govern and combine the wisdom of communities of functional fitness and other strength sports”.
Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “We are very excited to welcome the KNKF as our National Federation in the Netherlands. They are already a well-established and well-respected organization, and they are eager to make sure the right team is in place to help grow functional fitness in the Netherlands.
