Vilnius, Lithuania December 9, 2020: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Lithuanian Functional Fitness Federation as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Lithuania.
Igor Kuznecov, President of the Lithuanian Federation, announced, “I am very happy that Lithuanian Functional Fitness Federation has become part of International Functional Fitness Federation. This is a very important step for Lithuanian functional sport. The popularity of functional sport is growing rapidly and being part of the International Functional Fitness Federation will help us to manage the sport and its development in the most professional way”.
He went on to explain that, “Next year is going to be very challenging for everyone, due to the whole pandemic situation. However, we feel that the sport will be more important than ever. For the past few years, there have been more and more people showing interest in functional fitness sport. However, there was no governing body which could start managing the sport. Our plan is to unite all functional fitness clubs and athletes. We want to create a federation, which will take care of their members in a most professional way. We are currently finishing our program for next few year. This program involves both a local and international calendar, athlete qualification and ranking systems, coaches and judges development programs, and of course projects which will help us to promote functional fitness sport locally”.
The Lithuanian Federation is now eligible to send athletes to iF3 international events. Next year the iF3 is planning a Masters’ World Championships in Portugal in June as well as a World Championships in November in Australia. More information about the work of the Lithuanian Federation will be available soon at http://www.functionalfitness.lt/.
Kuznecov expressed his excitement about the future saying, “we have just joined the iF3 organization, and we are already invited to organize a live selection event for Lithuanian athletes and to participate in online selection for a World championship. I can only imagine all the good things the future will bring by being a part of international community.”
Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “The team behind the Lithuanian Federation are experienced in the sport and were able to form the Federation very quickly. We believe they will do an excellent job promoting and growing the sport in their country and the Baltic region. We are excited to welcome Lithuania to the iF3 and look forward to seeing their athletes compete at international events.”
