Apeldoorn, The Netherlands January 15, 2024
Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its acceptance of the Nationale Functionele Fitness Federatie (NF3) as the new governing body for functional fitness in the Netherlands, which is operating under new leadership for the third time.
After attempts to reinvigorate the federation last year fell short, a new leadership team has emerged with a solid plan for the future development of the sport in the Netherlands.
Joost Prinsen, President of the Dutch Federation, explained the Federation’s plans for the year, stating, “We aim to systematically elevate functional fitness in the Netherlands, with the overarching objective of earning recognition from the Netherlands Olympic Committee (NOC*NSF). Commencing our efforts after a period of stagnation, we are initiating the organization of a national championship. This strategic move is designed to identify and prepare the finest athletes in the Netherlands for participation in the 2024 iF3 Super Worlds in Hungary. The N3F team is eagerly anticipating this endeavor, recognizing its potential impact on the advancement of functional fitness in the country.”
The Dutch Federation already has plans for a Dutch National Championship to be incorporated into the Lowlands Throwdown later this year, which will serve as qualifications to Super Worlds in Hungary for Dutch athletes. More information about the work of the Dutch Federation is available at n3f.nl.
Prinsen expressed his excitement about the future saying, “We are delighted of our membership with the iF3. Collaborating with them, our expansive community, and our dedicated professional team, alongside the invaluable support from those who share our vision, we are poised to embark on a journey to realize our dreams. With years of experience underpinning our endeavors, we are committed to achieving new heights and making a meaningful impact in our field. Join us as we embark on this exciting chapter and shape the future together”.
Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “We have had several tough years of trying to find the right leadership to develop a strong federation in the Netherlands. We feel confident that the team led by Joost will provide the foundation needed to develop the sport to its full capacity in the Netherlands, and are looking forward to having a large contingent of Dutch athletes at Worlds in 2024 for the first time in several years.”
