Belgrade, Serbia August 12, 2019: Today, the International Functional Fitness Federation (iF3) announced its recognition of the Srpska Funkcionalna Fitnes Federacija as the national governing body for competitive functional fitness in Serbia.
Predrag Milosevic, President of the Serbian Federation, announced, “It is very important for Serbia to join iF3 membership, and to have a federation in Serbia that will deal with functional fitness.The future of sports and recreation is in functional fitness.”
He went on to explain that, ” Our plans in the first year are that we make a competition which will be traditional, to have as many members and competitors as possible, and to sign an agreement with the Anti-Doping Agency of the Republic of Serbia. In October, we plan to hold the first open competition. We intend to design this competition to be traditional every year. We will provide media to accompany our competition.”
With the 2019 iF3 World Championships happening at the end of the month, the Serbian Federation has set their sights on sending athletes to next year’s Worlds in 2020. The location of the 2020 World Championships will be announced at the iF3’s annual Congress meeting, which will be held in Malmo, Sweden on August 28th and 29th. Milosevic expressed his excitement about the future saying, “A very difficult task lies ahead, and that is to introduce functional fitness in Serbia into the system of recognized sports and this is of great importance for the Republic of Serbia. This is one of the most difficult tasks ahead. Also this is one of the goals that we want to achieve so that in the future it will create the conditions for holding large international competitions such as the European or World competition in functional fitness.”
Gretchen Kittelberger, President of the International Functional Fitness Federation, commented, “The addition of the Serbian Federation is important for the growth of our sport in the Balkan region. We do not currently have a strong presence in the Balkans, and we hope that through the work of the Serbian Federation that the sport will experience tremendous growth not only in Serbia, but in the region as a whole.”
