Last Friday, October 20, 2017, during its Congress Meeting and General Assembly the International Functional Fitness Federation announced Fitness Racing Federation United Kingdom (FRFUK) as the host for the 2018 iF3 World Championships to be held in London, England next October. Federation representative Craig Massey gave the following statement at the Congress meeting regarding the award,
The FRF(UK) is honoured to be selected to host the iF3 World Championships in 2018.
The whole functional fitness community in the UK will get behind this event and make it an unforgettable experience for the athletes and nations involved.
We will host the competition over the weekend of 6/7 October 2018 in London. There are over 150 affiliates and functional fitness facilities within a 90 minute drive of central London providing a pool of over 30,000 supporters to cheer the athletes on.
We will put athletes at the centre of the event and endeavour to replicate the feel and professionalism of the London 2012 Olympic Games. We will implement initiatives to reduce the cost of attending the event for participating NGBs/athletes and ensure the maximum attendance possible.
We will implement an observer programme to support the efforts of the iF3 to achieve recognition by GAISF and the IOC and we will seek to develop the commercial rights of the competition to reduce the financial risk associated with future World Championships.
On behalf of the functional fitness community in the UK the FRF(UK) invites the World to London next year for the iF3 World Championships – we can’t wait!
